We took a trip up to Portland Maine and stopped for a winter weekday brunch at Bayside American Cafe. Atmosphere is cozy and authentic, the dark wood and angled ceilings make you feel like you are getting served brunch in a friend's home. The menu is filled with exciting brunch favorites offering many unique benedicts, scrambles, frittatas, wraps, and of course sweet sugary treats. We ordered all over the menu to get the full experience. For our savory senses we went with the Louisiana Bayou Benedict and Homemade Corned Beef Hash. The Benedict is phenomenal, complete with grilled andouille sausage, poached eggs, and spicy hollandaise served on top of perfectly cooked corn cakes. Accompanied by perfectly seasoned home-fries this dish excited our taste buds in every way creating a Mardi Gras style party in our mouths. The hash does not disappoint either with chunks of angus corned beef that tastes slow cooked, needles to say our half order was completely devoured. We also enjoyed a Chipolte burger that warmed us up with jalapeños, herbed cream cheese, and a fried egg, the bun however was not able to be persevere and became quite messy to eat. Bayside brunch allows you to just choose one order of a speciality pancake or French toast so we really didn't have a good reason not to satisfy our dessert cravings. The bacon cheddar scallion pancake is a must as it is cooked a little crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, also the provided bourbon maple syrup certainly makes us booze bags very happy. The Lemon Blueberry French toast is served with house made lemon curd and Maine blueberries for a fresh citrus treat! Word to the wise, weekend brunches are first come serve first serve so be prepared for a wait. The prices are average for food and they also serve brunch cocktails and coffee drinks to take the Maine chill off you!
